Dan Nolan, Al Jazzera’s correspondent in Kabul, has an interesting report. According to him, those Afghan security personnel (read: Afghan army and police jawans) who were trained by US forces and its private mercenaries (read: Blackwater) and fought against the Taleban for years, are now switching sides and vow to fight till the expulsion of all foreign forces from the Afghan soil.
It is interesting, as Dan pointed out, that many of these new Taleban still smoke cigarrettes and have not, as yet, grown a full beard. Perhaps Taleban commanders are kind enough to let these new members some time to get fully adapted to ‘Taleban Standards’.
What is even more interesting is what Dan Nolan siets as the main driving force behind these defectors’ decion. According to Dan, these men did not mention any economical issues (read: their low government wages) as the primary reason for leaving Afghan government, and it seems their move has a more solid ideological background.
